Can you guys help me out with a signal boost?

karenfelloutofbedagain:

My bookstore, Barinfood, is hosting an event a week from today (Saturday, May 11th, at 3pm) for trans* individuals, and their family, friends, and significant others. It is a book reception and meet-and-greet for Eleanor Hubbard and Cameron Whitley’s recent book Trans Kin, a compilation of resources and anthology of experiences of the family, friends, and significant others of trans* individuals.

Eleanor and Cameron’s hope, in publishing the book, was to reach out to the family, friends, and significant others of trans* individuals and to help them understand what their loved one is going through and that they are not alone. By assisting the loved ones of trans* individuals, they hope that the loved ones will be more supportive, and that trans* individuals will benefit from increased support systems.

If you’re in the Boulder or Longmont area, I really hope you will be able to make it out! Even if you are not trans* or the family or friend of a trans* individual, I hope you’ll be interested in showing your support.

More info is one the Facebook event, and please, even if you don’t reblog this post, please RSVP and invite your friends. By doing so, you really help us reach a greater number of people. If I can reach just one unaccepting mother, father, significant other, sibling, whatever… If I can reach just one person and help them to accept their loved one(s) just the way they are, I will consider this event a success. Thank you so much for your help.

Anyone Living in Boulder, CO

gettbentt:

I’m looking to move from KCMO. I’ve really only driven through Colorado, the only reason I picked there was because I want to be in cleaner air, closer to mountains and I want to be outdoorsie.

Do you like living in Boulder? What’s it like there? Where are some good places to look for apartments? Obviously I know that I might not be living IN Boulder, so what surrounding communities are good?

Other Colorado people in general, do you like where you live?

Any input would be great.

bakersaysrun asked: do you guys know your a bunch of white rich brats?

There certainly are a few rich white brats here in Boulder, but you’re generalizing a little too much… I know plenty of non-rich, non-white and/or non-brats who live here, too.

A+ spelling though, nice work.

Do you guys really care if I tag posts? I’ve become a really lazy tumblr-er so if I were to stop tagging I’d reblog more often; what do you think?

“Did you know U.S. veterans are being deported every year?
Since the American Revolution to the present day, a significant number of non-U.S. citizens have served in the U.S. military and have fought for a country that has promised them citizenship and a home for their allegiance. These men and women put on American uniforms and took the oath to serve and protect the country and the constitution of the United States with their lives.
Like many veterans returning home, the transition from military life to civilian life is difficult. Going from structure and purpose to lack of order is more than some can handle. There is little to no help with this process. In many cases, due to the culture shock and various medical problems, veterans turn to street drugs and unhealthy lifestyles to cope with something that is hard to diagnose.
A law passed by congress in 1996 dramatically increased the number of crimes that would subject a non-U.S. citizen to be deported. Some get in trouble with the law, are arrested and convicted. Some then serve time in prison or jail and they are subsequently placed in removal proceedings. The veterans fight their cases, usually from a detention center, and when they lose, they are banished.
Deported Veterans, The Fight to Return Home is an exploration of the lives of these individuals and their families who are affected by the everyday realities of deportation. Separation, depression and poverty are common factors in these mens lives. The film will show how they struggle to survive in a foreign country with only one goal in mind, to return home.
Through extensive interviews with immigration lawyers, policy makers and officials from both the United States and Mexico, we’ll be able to better understand the complexity of immigration law and how these deportations are possible.
We need your support to be able to finish our research and interviews.”
